Following the success of films like ‘Festen’, ’28 Days Later ’ and ‘Pieces of April’’, filmmakers continue to dispense with camera weight and cost by using a fistful of electronics to record their stories. New camcorders are released every few months with improved picture quality. The filmmakers’ toolbox is growing, creating a deluge of choice and advantages for different shooting requirements. Although the points below are more valid the smaller the camera, they should function as general guidelines to help filmmakers answer the question: DV or not DV?
